Along with the increase in the job prospects, the candidates applying for these jobs are also increasing every year. In today's professional work environment, to stay a step ahead of rest, you need to send well-written effective accounting resumes, whether you are applying for internship, part-time jobs or full-time jobs.

The recruiting team has to go through several accounting resumes, to pick few suitable candidates for an interview. Most candidates have relevant work experience and relevant academic qualifications, but are unable to rightly put these details in their resume. To make sure that you get an interview call and your resume does not end up on the stack in the trash bin, you need to follow simple accounting resume writing tips that are provided below:

  • Customize your resume: A common mistake made by most candidates is that they create a generic resume that includes work experience, education details and skills and send the same resume for all the jobs they apply for. Before you write your resume, research and find details about the job requirements, the qualities that the employer are looking for in the candidate. Once you are aware about all these features draft your resume accordingly.

  • Highlight Professional Experience: You may be an entry-level candidate or a professional with several years of work experience, it is essential to highlight your professional experience. Use bullet points to list your roles and responsibilities in the previous accounting firm. Make sure that you mention those details that are relevant to the job you are applying for. Those applying for a managerial post need to place emphasis on the managerial roles and responsibilities they undertook in their previous jobs.

  • Keywords: Since most companies use software to scan resumes in bulk and extract only those resumes that have relevant keywords. Hence, it is essential to include keywords related to accounting field in your resume. You can include keywords such as accountant, auditing, balancing, funds, equities, trade, recovery, taxation, insurance, investment, budgeting, bookkeeping, collections, planner, stocks, stockbroker, payroll, procurement, planner etc.

  • Skills: The employers are looking for candidates with additional skills along with accounting knowledge.  Therefore, include skills such as interpersonal abilities, proficiency in using accounting software and knowledge of foreign languages.

  • Certifications: Most corporate firms prefer recruiting employees with CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CMA (Chartered Management Accountant) certification. Make sure you list these certifications separately or at top of the educational details section of your resume.
The resume is an essential document that will predict your future in the employment process. Hence, it is essential to spend some time to draft effective accounting resumes that highlights appropriate details.
